Why We Need Better Gun Control Laws Now

Why We Need Better Gun Control Laws Now Photo Credit: watchdog.org The tragic shooting of these two young journalists, which Flanagan recorded and spread on his social media  accounts,  comes just weeks after other incidents of gun violence have occurred in the U.S. On Thursday, July 23, John Russel Houser, 59, stood up in a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, during a showing of the Amy Schumer comedy “Trainwreck” and fired into the crowd of movie-watchers, killing two people and injuring numerous others. On Wednesday, June 17, Dylann Roof, 21, killed nine people during  Bible study in Charleston, South Carolina, in hopes of starting a race war; all nine of his victims were black. Beyond these shootings, other horrific bouts of gun violence have plagued America going back years. In September 2013, lone gunman Aaron Alexis killed 12 people in a mass shooting in the Washington Navy Shipyard in Washington, D.C. In December 2012, 20 children and  six adults were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School when Adam Lanza, 20, went on a shooting spree. In July 2012, gunman James Holmes killed 12 people and injured 70 others when he went on a mass shooting spree during a midnight screening of the Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises” in Aurora, Colorado. In January 2011, six people died and 19 people were shot, including U.S. Representative Gabrielle Gifford, when gunman Jared Lee Loughner fired his pistol into the crowd at a constituent meeting in a supermarket parking lot in Tucson, Arizona. In February 2010, Amy Bishop, a biology professor, stood up and killed three people during a department meeting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. In November 2009, 12 people were killed and more than 30 were injured by Nidal Malik Hasan when he went on a shooting rampage at Fort Hood in Texas. In February 2008, five people were killed and 21 were injured  by gunman  Steven Kazmierczak at the Northern Illinois University. In April 2007, 32 people were shot and killed at Virginia Tech by senior student Seung-Hui Cho, in the deadliest shooting incident by a single gunman in U.S. history. The list of shooting sprees goes on â€" as does the list of victims who were killed by these senseless acts of violence. Why then has no progress on gun control been made? Journalists Alison Parker and Adam Ward were killed August 26, live on air in Virginia.Photo Credit: Getty The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was adopted in 1789, and states that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The language of the amendment has sparked debate over the intended range of this right, but as it stands, that right has been fairly unrestricted for hundreds of years. Which makes efforts to restrict that amendment so much harder. While there’s something to be said about protecting the individual’s fundamental rights, there also comes a time when the government needs to restrict this right for the greater good and for the safety of society. The two acts that have been passed that somewhat practice gun control are the 1934 National Firearms Act and the 1968 Gun Control Act, though both deal more with  HOW people can buy guns and the ways in which they can be ordered and transported, rather than WHO can access guns. The only real law that’s been passed that helps regulate who can buy guns is the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which was enacted in 1993. It required licensed gun dealers to do federal background checks on people attempting to buy firearms by using the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NCIS), which is kept up by the FBI. The Brady Act includes conditions which prohibit people from buying guns. They include: those who have been convicted in a court of any crime punishable by a prison term over one year, are a fugitive from justice, are an unlawful user of or addict to any controlled substance, have been committed to a mental institution, are an illegal alien, were discharged from the Army dishonorably, have renounced U.S. citizenship,  are under a court order prohibiting them from harassing, stalking, or threatening a partner or child, or have been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. Many states have laws that add other criteria which can disqualify an individual from being able to buy a gun. This act may seem like it restricts a lot and is effective gun control, and in some shooting incidents, it should’ve been enough to prohibit the gunman from purchasing a weapon. Such is the case with Charleston shooter Dylann Roof, who should’ve been rejected by NCIS as he was arrested for possession of narcotics and admitted to the drug crime, but a mistake in the FBI system allowed him to buy a gun. However, the gun Flanagan used to kill Alison Parker and Adam Ward was legally purchased, and that and another Glock pistol were bought after the Charleston church massacre of nine black people. Flanagan was able to pass a background check, even though before he was fired by the station he was told to seek help for mental health problems. While employed at the TV station, colleagues complained they felt threatened or uncomfortable working with Flanagan. Now I don’t know whether stricter gun control laws would’ve been able to disqualify Flanagan from purchasing a gun as he had no criminal record and complaints at work cant really be used in background checks.  However, I do know that more restrictive gun control laws and universal background checks would go a long way in helping diminish shooting sprees and gun violence, while not overly impinging on American citizens’ Second Amendment rights. We cannot afford to let media hype and political attention to this issue die down before any progress has been made, as has been the problem in the past, because we deserve to feel safe whether we’re going to a movie, to work, to college, or  anywhere else. The time for tougher gun laws is now.

Organic Chemistry: Quantum Numbers

Organic Chemistry: Quantum NumbersQuantum numbers are formed by the third law of nature, which is, 'Energy cannot be created or destroyed'. The term 'quantum' comes from the Greek word 'quantum', which means the smallest unit in chemistry. This is one reason why writing quantum numbers can be very challenging, if you haven't got a firm grasp of the scientific laws. Inorganic chemistry can be daunting enough with its familiar, everyday chemical elements, so learning quantum mechanics can be quite challenging too.A written explanation of quantum mechanics could prove to be very helpful to an organic chemistry tutor or science teacher who would like to introduce this subject to their students. Indeed, the Laws of Physics, the number of the size of the electron (which describes its position relative to the nucleus) and the size of the electron (which indicates the energy of the electron) make for a wonderful learning experience. It is not easy to master these laws of physics, and it can be very confusing, if you have not studied any mathematics at all. For example, as we all know, the number two can be written as a sum of two parts and is equal to one minus the reciprocal of the unit of that length. In school, mathematics classes involve working out the reciprocal of the second digit of the length (the hypotenuse), but a physics class might want to divide the reciprocal of the first digit of the length, which is the hypotenuse, by two. This is more difficult to remember! The same rules apply to chemistry and physics. As long as you do not forget to add the right-hand side, then you will be able to remember your learning process and you will be able to deal with many difficult concepts. When it comes to using the Laws of Physics to help your organic chemistry tutor, remember that the Laws of Physics are a part of Nature and it is best to keep them well in mind. If you remember to take advantage of your notes and also use them to help you write quantum numbers, then you w ill benefit from the experience and learn more about chemistry.

Soap Definition - What Is Chemicals Found in Soap?

Soap Definition - What Is Chemicals Found in Soap?Soap definition is simply a relationship between one substance and another. A soap definition list is not necessarily accurate in every instance; however, many companies have found that it is the most efficient method of communicating with their customers. This form of communication is important to both parties involved because it helps to create clear, concise and accurate descriptions. It is also useful to use soap definitions when working with manufacturers, distributors and retail customers. To better understand soap definition, we must first discuss the chemistry of this product description. When it comes to beauty products, the chemicals found in some types of soaps can be irritating, drying and can be hazardous to health. In order to avoid these situations, soap makers, as well as people purchasing the product, need to know about the chemistry of the products they use. The chemical structures, chemicals and other elements that m ake up some types of these products vary based on the type of ingredient used. The chemistry of soap making is a complex process. Some soaps contain volatile ingredients that are easily released from solution during the process of the soap making process. These ingredients include sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and xylene. These are commonly used for glazing, friction and oil stripping. However, their chemical makeup varies from one product to another, depending on the nature of the soap, the ingredients and the type of machine used to produce the finished product. When it comes to a specific type of soaps, there are many different chemical compositions, depending on the type of ingredients used. For example, mineral oil and fragrance oils differ in chemical composition. Fragrance oils are generally used to alter the color and scent of the soap, while mineral oil is added to emulsify and stabilize the component parts of the finished product. When used, mineral oil has a slight odor and is much lighter in color than fragrance oils. While soap makers typically stick to one specific chemical composition for all of their finished products, fragrance oils can easily change from one product to another. This chemical mixture will still have the same specific chemical composition as the original formulation. Fragrance oils contain ingredients that mimic the effects of natural fragrances, such as essential oils. Other compounds, such as parabens, can be included in the mixture. Parabens are often found in many face washes and soaps, since they were originally developed to replace the preservatives that were removed by the use of phthalates.Any time a product changes from one type of soaps to another, the proper soap formulation is necessary to ensure that the correct chemical compounds are included and maintained. This process can take some time, but many companies and chemical manufacturers are willing to work closely with customers to ensure that th e correct formulations are used. Often, soap makers include the exact chemical composition of their finished products, as well as the specific formula of its fragrance and other components. These soap definition lists can be found on websites created by chemical manufacturers and chemical suppliers. These websites are generally a valuable resource for soap manufacturers, as well as retailers, distributors and consumers. Customers are also encouraged to visit their website at least once per year, in order to stay updated on new developments in the soap industry. After all, a customer's satisfaction is a key part of any successful business.

Are You Taking the Right Approach to Learning Music

Are You Taking the Right Approach to Learning Music Suzy S. https://www.youtube.com/user/takelessons/ Can you learn to sing on your own? Can you learn piano  with online videos? Find out what works and what doesnt when it comes to learning music, in this post by guitar teacher  Kirk R... Dreaming of playing an instrument, or learning to sing? These days, there are many different ways to get started with music. You could take  private  lessons. You could play in groups, whether thats  in school, group classes, or just jamming with friends. You could even start learning on your own through observation, or search for  prerecorded video or audio lessons. But whats the most effective way to learn? You might be surprised to learn that its NOT  the options listed above. That is, not on their own. Let’s take a look at each one, and the benefits and drawbacks they present. Learning On Your Own Spending time with your instrument on your own is essential to getting better. Anyone you ask about learning music will surely support your own private practicing and desire to learn new things outside of classes,  lessons, and  rehearsals. I recommend reading books  and  blog posts (like you’re doing now, good job!) and listening to other musicians, even those from other instruments or styles.  Doing so will help you recognize  what you like and what you dont like. However, if youre not  around other musicians regularly, it becomes very easy to let your playing get way off track. Your brain can trick you into thinking  the sound youre  making  or hearing  is the same as the sound you tried  to create, even if its not. And if this  goes unchecked, it can lead down a long path of mistakes until one day you play for someone and they don’t recognize the song at all! It’s important to have a regular “check-up” for your playing. Even professional musicians get together regularly to play for someone else! As a beginner, working with a private music teacher is key. Consider This: Is it Possible to Teach Yourself to Sing? While learning notes or chords on your own on the guitar can be a great starting point, singers trying to learn on their own tend to struggle. Whys that? Learning how to use your instrument (your voice!) is a whole-body experience, which often requires the instruction of a teacher, whether online or in-person, who can easily identify the root issues whether thats poor posture, unsupported breathing, or something else. “Canned” Music Lessons The internet is a huge part of our society now and I think it is a huge advantage to musicians everywhere. You can find tons of videos and online courses, and these types of lessons are a great way to  gain some knowledge. However, its important to keep in mind that prerecorded videos dont tell you  if youre  doing something  wrong, let alone what it is. Similar to learning on your own, mistakes can easily become habits. I have had guitar students who learned chords on their own, and in their first lesson actually played all the chords upside down. Needless to say, it didn’t sound great, but they were used to hearing it  and didn’t even  notice the mistake. If you want to learn the notes or chords for a specific song, YouTube is a great option. But if youre looking for lessons with substance, steer clear of prerecorded lessons. The reason? These videos  assume your  prior knowledge of music, which isnt always effective. Learning music is not a linear process; in fact, teachers dont always agree on  the order certain things should be taught. Often, it depends on the particular student and their goals. This is why working with a teacher who can create personalized lesson plans for you makes a huge difference. Consider This: Can you Really Learn Piano Online? Many students are leery of online piano lessons. After all, how can a teacher properly see what youre doing with your fingers and if youre placing your hands correctly? Fortunately, the answer is yes and online lessons are a great option for many students. Experienced teachers know how to angle their camera so you can see their hands clearly, and will direct you to adjust yours so they can provide feedback.  Just remember the advice above: dont rely on canned video tutorials alone! Group Music Classes Learning to play music with others is essential for any musician of any style. Collaborating with  other musicians will force you to pay attention to details, like precise rhythms and a careful balance in volume,  which  may sneak past you when playing on your own. Many beginner students get their start in band or orchestra, and many adult students flock to group music classes because its less daunting than private lessons. However, I dont recommend relying on group sessions alone if you really want to improve. The reason behind this is that with group classes, you will receive little, if any, individual help. Likewise, more advanced musicians shouldnt rely on jamming with friends to improve their skills. Other musicians may be able to share some skills, but even good players often make terrible teachers! Learn from them, but be cautious not to pick up bad habits or get frustrated if you’re not able to pick up something right away; perhaps your friend took a subtle skill for granted and didn’t think to explain it as an experienced teacher might. Consider This: How to Find Musicians Near You If youre taking private lessons, but missing the group component, dont fret! Younger students, consider attending band or orchestra camps in the summer to get ensemble practice. Older students, try a free membership at TakeLessons Live where you can access online music classes led by live instructors in a variety of subjects.   Private Music Lessons Individual lessons are a great starting place (and continuing place!) for almost any musician. Since your teacher is right there observing you, youll get feedback in real-time. And that can save you a lot of time searching on your own. In the midst of trying to get the right pitches, rhythms, and articulations, identifying when  something is going wrong on your own can be nearly impossible, even for more advanced players. The only drawback  to individual lessons, however, is that you only receive one perspective on your playing: your teachers. However good the teacher is, as a musician and a teacher, they have only one perspective of many. Consider This: How Do I Find the Best Music Teacher? A simple search on TakeLessons can pull up tons of teachers for guitar lessons, piano lessons, and more. But how do you find the right teacher for your needs, goals, and schedule? Weve got you covered. Check out our tips here. So, How SHOULD You Be Learning Music? Now that weve reviewed these four options for learning music, heres my point: to really improve your skills, you need to combine all of the methods above. Heres what I recommend: If you’re a part of a group class at school or in the community, sign up  for private lessons as well to get individual help. Same goes for if youre working your way through a prerecorded course or relying on videos. Take some time each week to meet with a teacher, to make sure youre on the right track.  With online music lessons, you dont even need to leave your house! Review what youve learned in your course, and get their feedback on your technique. If you’re already taking  private lessons, see if your teacher can connect you with other students to get some group experience. Most teachers will be thrilled to hear that you’re interested in collaborating with other students! Keep practicing and learning on your own, too. Treat practice like a lesson that you give yourself. If you’re not sure what to do to improve something, try searching online, or simply experiment! Ask yourself, “What if I use this finger? Or if I breathe here, instead? Have you been playing music for a while now? Wed  love to hear what ways you went about learning. Leave a comment below and share your story! Post Author:  Kirk R. And if you want to draw a tattoo yourself, the first thing to do is determine a style. Are you into tribal patterns, or more old-school designs? First let’s take a look at the main tattoo styles to see what might suit you.The traditional tattooThe tribal tattooThis type is very well known in the tattoo world, one which is based on large black shapes and curved lines which these days has, unfortunately, lost its depth of meaning. Or iginally, the tribes who practices tattooing â€" whether in Polynesia or Africa â€" aimed to signify a social rank, the belonging to a certain group. These highly codified tattoos have a strong symbolism still today and are still very popular. The Asian tattooUsually using Chinese or Japanese lettering, this style is strongly inspired by Asian art. The Yakuza, in particular, opted for this style of tattoo. Among the most used symbols, we often find the dragon, the samurai, the geisha, and the lotus. The Celtic tattooComposed of Celtic symbols and lettering, this style of tattoo is easily recognisable as a kind of tribal art, with the Celtic cross as the main motif.Realistic tattoos  The realistic tattoo aims to faithfully reproduce a particular image. These really can be works of art, and require perfect mastery of the art of tattooing in order to achieve perfect results.Realistic tattoos can represent many different things - they can be drawings of a face, a still life, a landscape â €" and it can be in black and white or in colour. The end result should be a perfect copy of the original object, as if you’re looking at a photo. This type of tattoo is not for amateurs â€" it takes real skill to produce a piece of art like this, with particular attention being paid to the fine details so they are visible on skin.Tattooing goes way back to all different cultures - where does your inspiration come from? Photo credit: Olin Gilbert on Visual HuntOld school tattoosOften retro in style, with a rock and roll touch, the old school tattoo comes from 1930s America, inspired by the local culture of the era. From Native Americans to pin-ups to bikers, this style was popularised by sailors who would take what was most dear to them symbolically through their tattoos. For a long time, the old school tattoo was considered to be worn by delinquents and had a bad image. Today, it’s returned to popular culture and has changed its reputation.Graphic tattoosGraphic tattoos are abstr act and artistic, and really give free rein to the imagination. It’s still a fairly recent style which has its origins in art, with each tattoo artist displaying their own unique style. Whether it’s geometric, symbolic, motifs, objects, animals, the inspiration for graphic tattoos are varied and there is a total freedom of expression. If you like the work or style of a particular tattoo artist, then why not trust him to design you your own tattoo? He will create a unique work of art for your own skin. You could take inspiration from manga and anime drawings too.Biomechanical tattoosThis is still a very recent trend. The biomechanical tattoo, as the name suggests, combines mechanical and biological elements. With a focus on the futuristic, this style finds inspiration in science fiction. You could, for example, get a tattoo sleeve of a bionic arm drawn with a 3D effect!Dot work tattoosDot work is similar to the idea of pointillism painting. The technique consists of tattooing in lo ts of tiny dots. This gives the effect of different materials and textures, bringing a touch of originality and realism to the tattoo.Calligraphic/writing tattoos  Getting an inspirational phrase or quote is very common these days. What makes the difference between a good and a bad tattoo â€" apart from spelling mistakes, of course! â€" is the calligraphy used. Before getting a calligraphic tattoo, it’s essential to pick your favourite writing style. And among all these new trends, there is also a new interest in white ink tattoos and 3D tattoos that create an optical illusion on the skin just like a real 3D drawing. So really explore all your options before making your final choice!Take good drawing classes here.Be careful with the style you choose and do some research before hand! Photo on VisualHunt.comHow Can I Find a Tattoo Subject Before Designing It?Before starting the first sketches of a tattoo, you need to determine which style you want to use and equally what your subject will be.This is obviously a very important step, because once it’s tattooed on your skin, it will remain there…unless you opt for some painful and expensive laser removal sessions. So make sure it’s something you won’t regret!Tattoos are symbolic: beyond the aesthetic aspect, a tattoo is personal and expresses something important to the person who wears it.  There are so many possibilities - whether it’s a character, an abstract pattern, or any symbol, it’s important to find the right inspiration to create the perfect personalised tattoo.Use your own personal experience to find an important subjectExplore different artistic references, look in art books, at street art, film, musicHave a look at the work of your favourite tattoo artistsTattoos are a graphic representation, just like designing a logo. For successful and satisfying results, it shouldn’t just be a message, but it should also be perfectly designed and executed. There are two possibilities to consider:Desig ning your own tattoo: for this you will need to have a good grasp of the basics of drawing so that you can design an aesthetically pleasing tattoo which can then be reproduced on your skin.Go to a tattoo artist: you can tell the artist your ideas and wishes for your tattoo, and they will propose an original and creative design to you. A good tattoo artist is above all an experimental artist. To avoid any disappointment, it’s best to follow their advice.5 Constraints of Designing a TattooHow do you get started with designing a tattoo? Find an original idea! Photo credit: °] ° on VisualhuntAll tattoo artists will tell you: just because a drawing is beautiful, doesn’t mean it will make a beautiful tattoo. The reasons are simple â€" a tattoo must be designed taking into account certain constraints. The size of the tattooIt seems obvious. If you have a face tattooed in a 3cm square area, you will not be able to add much detail whatsoever. Remember to adjust the size of your tattoo ac cording to the desired design. The more realistic and detailed you want your tattoo to be, the bigger it will need to be to accommodate that.Placement Where will your tattoo be placed on your body? This is another essential question to ask before creating your tattoo. Remember that in this case, your skin is the paper or canvas, and a tattoo needs to be designed according to which part of the body it will go, be it arms, back, torso, neck…The coloursHow many colours are there in your tattoo design? Make sure you take into account the fact that not everything can be transferred from a drawing to a tattoo. It’s not enough to just be a good artist when it comes to drawing an original tattoo, you need to understand the method too!Consistency Different tattoos on a person should all harmonise together. But how can you make sure all your tattoos work well together? This is also an issue that shouldn’t be neglected. If each tattoo is unique, they must all nonetheless find a place nex t to each other.Who will execute the tattoo? This is the question that makes all the difference. If you have a very precise idea in mind that you have designed yourself, you need to find a tattoo artist you will respect it as faithfully as possible.Everyone has their own style and technique. If your design has too many colours or effects, it’s possible that slight adaptations or modifications will be necessary to make the tattoo work.Choose the Right Tattoo Artist to Get the Tattoo of Your Dreams!A tattoo artist is an expert, so they'll be able to advise you on your own body art. Photo credit: henboffman on Visual huntWhether or not you know how to draw, the key to a successful tattoo lies with the person who will eventually create it. And finding the right person for job isn’t always an easy task.Take the time to do your research, have a look at their achievements, style and reviews before you get started. You can also opt for some drawing classes to help you create your own desi gn.Most tattoo artists will be able to show you their tattoo catalogue, which will include original and unique tattoo designs that they’ve previously done. Feel free to browse your local tattoo studios to see if you’ll find the right tattoo template.Don’t forget that there’s no shame in using a tattoo that you find in a catalogue or online! To Learn More Keep Testing Yourself It turns out that taking a test isnt just a teachers easy way of finding out where students stand or forcing them to read a chapter in a textbook. Testing might actually boost student learning and improve memory retention, according to a report cited in the New York Times. The report, published in the journal Science, concluded that students who read a passage and were then tested a week later on what they read retained about 50% more of the information than students who used other, common study methods. The other methods students used were repeatedly studying the material cramming and creating detailed diagrams of the information, connecting it all together in students own words and thoughts. Many teachers believe that the latter method is an effective method for studying because it forces students to create connections among information points. These two methods can give students the false belief that they know the information better than they actually do, according to the report. The results surprised many cognitive psychologists and other educational scientists who long believed that creating connections among information was the best method of learning. For the test, researchers placed 200 college students in two experiments, both experiments had them read several passages about scientific subjects, like the digestive system or muscle tissues. In the first experiment, students were separated into four groups. The first simply read the passage in a five-minute session, the second read it in four separate, five-minute intervals, the third engaged in concept mapping, creating hand-drawn diagrams and bubbles to link the information they read in their own, personally-organized fashion, the fourth group took a retrieval practice test, where they free wrote every thing they remembered for 10 minutes. This group then reread the passage and took a second retrieval practice test. All four groups were than given a short-answer test a week later, assessing how much of the information they could recall and the logical conclusions they could create about what they had read. The students in the fourth group, who performed the retrieval practice tests, outperformed all other groups. The second experiment focused only on concept mapping and retrieval practice testing. Students were separated into two groups. One group created a concept map, and the other group took tests, asking them to recall information. Similar to the first experiments results, the students who took retrieval tests recalled more information a week later, even when they were asked to draw a concept map from memory. Cognitive psychologists cannot exactly pinpoint what causes these results. But, many believe its because taking preliminary tests gives our brains practice. Our brains can create contextual cues and patterns for remembering information during the preliminary tests, making recall easier because the brain can then remember the cues and the patterns, which can then lead to remembering the information itself. Then once the second test is administered, our brains can easily recall these patterns or context cues because they were previously in our minds. These results have practical applications as many teachers administer quizzes or practice tests before larger, more-weighted exams, or even when teachers administer mid-term exams then final exams. Students who were previously tested on material will be able to remember it more effectively when they are tested again.
